Community Radio Benziger

          

The Bishop Benziger Hospital which has a meritorious history of more than half a century in the field of health care has now ventured into a new area of service by starting a community radio station....

Radio aims at the integral development of the people who live in the neighboring villages. Community Radio is the latest of the many innovative initiatives of Bishop Benziger hospital in its constant attempt to reach out to the community around it. It is hoped to that this new venture will complete and complement the already existing services rendered by the hospital through its community health centres.

Radio Benziger was established by Bishop Benziger hospital society on Nov. 7, 2010 in kollam, a city lying along the coasts of the Arabian sea in Kerala.  It broadcasts 15 hrs a day in FM 107.8 MHz .The signal reaches up to a radius of 20 Km. in and around the densely populated city catering to large number listeners who comprise mostly  people belonging to the coastal areas. Programmes are broadcast in the Malayalam language. There are a few programmes in English which are educational programmes for children. There is also a weekly programme for language minorities.

 Vision
          Radio Benziger is a community radio engaged in the effort to empower people especially those belonging to the marginalized segments in the city of Kollam in order to continuously develop the quality of their life in all its aspects.

 It strives to achieve this by providing a platform where the members of the community  come together to interact and share information, knowledge and skills regarding issues that concern them and through a participatory process of decision making  work for continuous development. In this process of community building, Radio Benziger constantly attempts to focus on local culture and ethos.
